Is Moments As Art part of The Night Sky?

No. They are separate, unrelated companies. The Night Sky was founded in Dublin in 2017; Moments As Art is a small shop based in Vancouver, Canada.

Do they use the same star data?

Yes. Both say their stars come from the European Space Agency's Hipparcos catalogue, so a star map of the same night, place and time puts the stars in the same places. The differences are in the design, the formats and the service.

It depends on what you buy. The Night Sky lists prints from US$39 and does not state its digital download price on the pages we checked. A Moments As Art digital file costs USD $29 / CAD $39 at any size. Our printed star maps are not on sale yet. Compare the delivered price, including any frame and shipping, on the day you buy.

Which one makes moon prints?

Both offer moon phase designs. Moments As Art sells the moon as its own print, drawn from NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter maps for your date, time and place. The Night Sky offers a moon phase option in its print builder and moon phase jewelry.

Which has the better returns policy?

The Night Sky takes returns within 30 days of delivery for a refund, with you paying return shipping, but not for digital files or ordering mistakes. Moments As Art fixes our own mistakes for free, sends a corrected file free even when the typo was yours, and replaces or refunds damaged or lost prints, but does not take change-of-mind returns on personalised items.

Both shops place their stars from the ESA Hipparcos catalogue, the standard source for naked-eye star positions, so neither is more “real” than the other. What decides whether a chart shows your sky is the moment it is calculated for: the place, the date, the time and the time zone rules in force there on that date. We work all four out for every chart and explain how on our about page. Whichever shop you choose, check the preview before you pay.
